Reiki was developed by Dr. Mikao Usui, in Kyoto, Japan, in the late 1800’s.

Dr. Usui re-discovered the root of an ancient healing system that is thought to have originated in Tibet thousands of years ago. He studied the healing phenomena of energies of sounds and symbols directly linked to the human body/nervous system and the active universal life energy for healing for over twenty one years.

Dr. Usui underwent a metaphysical experience and became empowered to use sounds and symbols to heal. This healing tradition was handed down to grandmasters responsible for introducing Reiki to the western world.

Currently, Reiki is practiced worldwide by trained Reiki Masters and Practitioners. Nurses, physicians, massage/body therapists, athletic trainers and counselors use Reiki to enhance their practice.

Reiki healing is not, and should not be, used as a substitute to traditional Western medicine. Rather, it becomes a part of one’s personal overall health care routine. Raising one’s energy encourages the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
